We overcome the difficulties in learning a foreign language

On your way to learning a foreign language, you will have to overcome a number of barriers yourself. We will help you to cope with them and show you the methods tested in practice. Armed with our advice - and any problem in learning will be just another step, rising to which you will improve your language skills.

No time to study

We have enough time for social networks, reading books and watching TV shows, but not for learning the language - is it familiar? We do not urge you to abandon your hobby, stop communicating with friends and forget about rest. It is enough to competently draw up a training schedule.

Any classes require concentration, certain comfort conditions and regularity. If a couple of hours a day does not work out, start small. Better than 20-30 minutes, but daily. Make up for every missed lesson, doubling the time to study the next day. This principle motivates you to practice regularly. And in order not to miss, set the alarm for a certain time, so that it reminds you: it's time to learn English. It disciplines.

You can limit yourself not by the time frame, but by the volume of educational material. For example, 30 new words daily. So in a month your vocabulary is enriched by 1000 words! And you can even learn them on the go - on the way to work or school, in transport or a queue. By the way, watching TV shows, reading books or blogs is also possible in a foreign language.

No clear goal

You have already started learning a foreign language more than once, but you have never reached the finish line. Perhaps the problem is that you do not know where this very finish is located.

Learning a foreign language is not in itself a goal. How do you know you learned it? Will you begin to understand, talk or communicate freely in another country? The difficulties of setting a goal that is diffuse in time and volume only postpones its achievement.

Determine your level of language at the start by passing the test and state what you want to achieve. A clear plan will help move confidently and track progress.

For comfortable communication, one level is needed, and professional activity abroad requires other knowledge. Take this into account when setting a goal. And it's better to break the training program into daily tasks: today learn adjectives and do exercises with them, tomorrow - read a few pages from the book, the day after tomorrow - watch 15 minutes of the film, etc.

Fear of making mistakes

What is better: to learn 100 new words is wrong or even not to break to their study? The answer is obvious. Do not be afraid to make mistakes and speak imperfectly. The more of them, the closer the success.

Speak new words out loud, even if you are not sure of the correctness of the pronunciation. Try to build sentences, albeit primitive at first, but any practice will contribute to the study of the language.

To dispel fear, it is enough to turn to a professional tutor. Under the guidance of a mentor, you will feel more confident, and your mistakes will be promptly corrected. Find a personal teacher here: Preply.com

From language to speech

Starting to learn a foreign language from scratch, in any case you will begin with words and rules. And the transition from theoretical knowledge to practical skills is not easy for everyone. You can learn grammar, but when it comes to speaking, it turns out that knowing it is not enough.

The most effective approach to learning: the ratio of theory to practice, as 1: 5. Each new word or rule must be fixed immediately - to pronounce it orally, to use it in speech. Single words are remembered worse than those taken in context. Introduce them in blocks in sentences, try to write small stories using new vocabulary.

Listening comprehension

To speak a foreign language and to perceive it are different things. The interviewee will not pick up words from your active vocabulary and follow all grammatical rules. English in communication can surprise you with slang or speed of pronunciation of foreigners. Therefore, it is very important to train listening - to listen to as much English as possible. And both live and mechanical.

Talk to foreigners on Skype. The sooner you establish an audio contact with a native speaker, the better. At the initial stage, you can use Google Translate, and then you can completely do without it. You can find interlocutors on special resources: Preply.com

Listen to podcasts and radio. Select audio records for your level of proficiency, preferably with a translation. Access to online radio stations can be obtained from any gadget and listen in the background.

Practice at any convenient opportunity, try to think in a foreign language and regularly repeat the material studied - this is the basis for successful learning of any language.
